1. Influence of Internet in Healthcare Knowledge Management
Hitesh Gupta
President, SPEAK Foundation, Delhi, India
Vol. 1(1) : pp 1-8 (2011)
Abstract: The increasing globalization and use of the Internet,
accompanied with multiple resources, pose challenges to the healthcare industry.
The healthcare industry is going through a major transformation due to the
influence of internet in the life of healthcare professionals, organizations as
well as patients. Everyone has data, but the knowledge from that vast amount of
data can only be obtained through internet in a cost effective, updated and
speedy manner. As such, this exploratory paper is an attempt to throw some light
on the influence of internet in Healthcare knowledge management based on the
judgmental sampling of secondary sources.

2. The Development of Glucosamine Analysis in the Shark
Cartilage Using High Performance Liquid Chromatography
Ida Musfiroh, Aliya Nur Hasanah
Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor, Indonesia
Vol. 1(1) : pp 9-15 (2011)
Abstract: The study is to analyze the development of glucosamine in the
shark cartilage by employing High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with
UV-Vis detector. The analytical method is done by using the derivatization
process considering the fact that glucosamine is a polar compound and has no
sufficient chromophor to absorb UV radiation. The research is conducted through
steps of shark cartilage mineral processing, that is, the preparation of
standard and sample solution, the determination of optimum conditions, the
validation of analytical methods, and the analysis of glucosamine in the shark
cartilage respectively.
The validation of the analytical method is shown by these results: correlation
coefficient of linearity test 0.995, variation coefficient of precision test
0.38% - 1.42%, recovery of accuration test 98.24 % - 101.95 %, resolution test (Rs)
1.975, LOD 0.24 ppm, and LOQ 0,80 ppm. The concentration of glucosamine in the
shark cartilage is 1.08% at 240 nm UV detector, a C18 column (Lichocart (R), 250
mm x 4 mm), mobile phase aqua bidestilata: glassial acetic acid: methanol
(89.96:0.04:10 pH 2.67) and a flow rate 1.2 ml / min.

3. Yoga in Bhagavath Gita and its Relevance in the New
Millennium

Vol. 1(1) : pp 16-26 (2011)
Abstract: “The Gita is not only my Bible or my Quran; it is more than
that, it is my mother. I lost my earthly mother, who gave me birth, long ago,
but this eternal mother has completely filled her place by my side ever since.
She has never changed. She has never failed me. When I am in difficulty or
distress I seek refuge in her bosom” (Hingorani and Hingorani, 1985, p.136),
says Mahatma Gandhi; the father of India. Gandhi considered it as a kind
dictionary which he consulted constantly to solve his problems of life. This
sacred book influenced the life of Gandhi very much. The influence of Gita can
be seen not only in the life of Gandhi but also in the life of many important
personalities of modern and contemporary India.
It is because of the uniqueness of this sacred book. The essence of the Hindu
religion is found in thy source. It is both philosophical and devotional in
nature. Its content is theoretical as well as practical. Many great people in
India sought in Gita inspiration for their lives and action. It has been the
source of strength for people from all walks of life. Bhagavad Gita can be
studied from many angles. Its subject matter consists of many interesting
themes. One of them is yoga. It is dealt at length in it. It is also an
important theme. Many important teachings of Gita are centered around this
theme. This paper tries to present some of those insights on yoga. This article
is divided into four parts. The first part deals with yoga and its origin. The
second part explains about Karma yoga. The third part throws light on Jnana
yoga. The last part explains Bhakti yoga.

Medicine and JNM Hospital, Kalyani, West Bengal, India
Vol. 1(1) : pp 27-30 (2011)
Abstract: Irrational use of allopathic medicines is an age old problem.
It is more common in developing and third world countries where there is either
no regulation or weak monitoring of the health system. The medicines may be
overused, underused or misused by the dispenser or the consumer. This results in
wastage of scarce resources. The paper discusses about the strategies for
rational use of drugs in order to be effective and efficient in taking care of
the patient.

Abstract: The present study was conducted in order to observe the actual
reaction of the society to the birth of a girl child and assess whether there
was a male preference prevalent in the society. A cross-sectional survey was
done on 187 pregnant women who gave birth to a child, at Lala Lajpat Rai
Hospital, Kanpur, using a pre designed questionnaire to measure the various
attributes related to the nutritional intake.
About 55.4 % mothers were happy with the girl child but 78.8% were happy for the
boy child. Although 71.9% of the grandparents were happy for their
granddaughters, 97% were happier for the grandson in the family. And among the
couples with birth order of >2, about 52.8% had planned pregnancy, 89.9% didn’t
have previous elective abortion and 90.9% didn’t get pre sex determination done.
The study reveals that there is a male preference in the Indian society.

Vol. 1(1) : pp 36-38 (2011)
Abstract: Congenital inguinal hernia is a common condition encountered in
surgical practice. We report a case of scrotal Enterocutaneous fistula, a rare
complication of incarcerated hernia in a HIV patient due to late presentation,
neglect and lack of proper management. This case report highlights the need for
an early and accurate diagnosis followed by prompt treatment of groin swellings.
The presentation of congenital inguinal hernia in this form in adults also
reflects state of health care in developing countries.

Vol. 1(1) : pp 39-41 (2011)
Abstract: A 40 year old woman presented with an ever-increasing lump in
right upper abdomen that she had noticed after drainage of an abscess in the
same region during her pregnancy 15 years back. On examination it was a smooth,
globular, 10 x 8 cm size lump in right hypochondrium and lumbar region that
moved with respiration and could have been mistaken for a gall bladder lump but
for a well defined upper margin.
A CECT abdomen showed a 6.6x5.8x4.5 cm3 oval non enhancing soft tissue lesion
having fat density and calcification adjacent to ascending colon & small bowel
loops. On exploration it was found to be an ovarian cyst that was adherent to
the surrounding bowel and had a long pedicle going into the pelvis. On
histopathology it was reported to be a mature ovarian teratoma.

Abstract: Vesicoenteric fistulas occur between the bladder and bowel
wall. Appendicovesicocolonic fistula is a rare condition for which an accurate
prelaparotomy diagnosis is difficult to make. The presentation of
Appendicovesicocolonic Fistula in this form in adults also reflects state of
health care in developing countries. This very rare complication should be an
eye opener for the concerned authorities to improve the existing health care
system.

Abstract: Retention of foreign body for long duration may lead to serious
morbidity in form of infection, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and chronic
pelvic pain. We report a case of a 14 yr old unmarried girl who presented with
chronic pelvic pain and rectal discharge for 4 months. USG was suggestive of
echogenic lesion in vagina. CT scan revealed intravaginal foreign body. A torch
cap was retrieved from vagina.
